drained Earth’s resources, poisoned its air, and tainted its waters. The world’s leaders tried everything to reverse the damage, but nothing worked-until they discovered a sentient energy source buried deep beneath the surface. This energy, named Recyclonia, had the power to restore Earth to its former glory. There was one catch: it could only be activated by perfect recycling.

But recycling had become more than just a matter of separating paper from plastic—it had evolved into a high-stakes game. The Recyclonia Core could distinguish between perfectly sorted materials and even the tiniest mistake. And if the world’s inhabitants failed to recycle correctly… the energy would implode, taking the world with it.

The game begins with players—ordinary citizens from all walks of life—entering massive recycling arenas, each one filled with conveyor belts carrying a chaotic mess of waste. Glass bottles, Plastic containers, Metal cans, Paper products, Trash, and Biodegradable Compost whirled by the conveyor belt at breakneck speed. The player had to sort everything before it reached the end of the line. Failure meant instant elimination and the gradual loss of Earth’s last chance.

Marcus, a young engineer with a knack for detail, entered the arena on Day One. He had watched friends and family fall, their efforts undone by something as simple as placing a greasy pizza box in the wrong bin. The pressure was immense. As the machines roared and conveyor belts surged, Marcus focused on the task, there was no room for error.

Days passed, and the game became more complex. Every round introduced new materials and more conveyor belts. Every mistake made the core pulse dangerously, a reminder of the impending doom.

The world watched in terror as fewer and fewer contestants remained. Marcus was one of the last. His hands moved swiftly, eyes scanning every item. And so, a new era began—one where recycling was no longer a game but a sacred act, ensuring the continued life of the planet and the legacy of those who saved it.

Inspired by such games as Papa' Freezeria, this game is meant for a casual audience with ages ranging from 3 to 99. We at team Recycle This wanted to teach people how to properly Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle through a fun and relatable 2D game geared towards competitive high-scores and educational themes. Did you know that well over 140 million acres of land in the US are overtaken by landfills? It is through this game that we hope to perpetuate a memorable experience through the gameplay loop of sorting, scoring, and progressing through the multiple levels in order to fully understand where each object can be recycled and thus earn the highest score.

Players earn score via correctly recycling objects sent toward them on a conveyor belt. By dragging and dropping, players take items off the belt and put them into bins. Depending on the object type (glass, plastic, trash, etc.) compared to the specific bin type, they are either rewarded or penalized. With three strikes of wrong sorting or items falling off the conveyor, players must work against time, as the conveyor will gradually speed up. We encourage you to aim for a high score!
